Sunshine and Ocean Waves

Bonjour! Earlier this year I made a quilt by McCall's titled Sunshine and Marmalade. I love it and my significant other loves it because I made it but also mentioned that it's "really pink". Now, I don't think the pink overpowers the quilt but the point is that it's feminine. So I decided that a masculine counter quilt should be made, opposite colors but same pattern. Using this color chart maybe:

The colors to use might be shades of yellow, green, blue and grey instead of white. Design Seeds is perfect for designing, plotting and planning. Her palettes are brilliant; here are some I'm considering for the quilt:

Not the orange
There's not many yellow palettes on Design Seeds. Harrumph. The plan is to use the fabric that I had intended to use for another quilt, maybe:

Some of these might not mesh great and will be replaced with different fabrics- read: shopping!! I mean, girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! I'll be sure to let y'all know what's up with this in za future

Thanks for visiting and happy quilting!
Quilt on lovely quilters!!

  1. Thank you for the sweet comment on Rachel's fan quilt.

I love the word: Tertiary. And I love tertiary colors!

Some of my success with a 'masculine' quilt has come after careful simple/modern pattern selection, more monochromatic focus, no flower prints and some serious contrast. So the first 2 blues and a light gray for the background. or the first 3 yellow/golds with a light gray bkgd makes me remember Modern Quilts Illustrated #3, it has a great masculine quilt on its cover. http://www.modernquiltstudio.com/SPD/modern-quilts-illustrated-issue-no--3---ia1379684282255.jsp

  2. Hey there - no problem, I saw your fan quilt when browsing through quilterblogs.com. Thank you so much for the insight! I really appreciate it. It'll be such a challenge for me to keep things simple because I love to make things complex.
